The Help You Want, The Privacy and Convenience you Need
Colorado has many benefits, but when seeking a therapist, you are either facing city traffic or limited options. You want to be able to choose a professional that has the expertise you need while also being able to fit regular sessions into your lifestyle. I have expanded to offering sessions via secure video to provide effective treatment for high stress and anxiety without adding any additional stress to your day with worry about commute time or social judgment.
I often hear my clients say that they have been suffering for months or years before reaching out for help. Why? Most of the time it is a combination of practical considerations, “How can I make time for therapy when I am already overwhelmed?” and fear of the stigma of asking for help, “What will my friends and family think? Am I weak if I ask for help?” Online therapy or Telehealth is a great way to access help with the minimum time commitment and without the fear of being seen walking into the therapist’s office or even worse seeing someone you know in the waiting room.
Who Might Benefit from Telehealth?
Anyone with access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone, a good internet connection, and private space. It can be an especially great option for people in rural areas, as it allows you to choose who you want to work with and to avoid the limitations or discomfort of working with someone in your community. This may be particularly important for medical professionals, mental health clinicians, and other highly visible members in a community who may be reluctant to seek help locally.
Telehealth also allows you to choose a clinician with specialized interest and training, rather than having to go to a generalist. I specialize in treating professionals with high stress and anxiety. I can’t count the number of times I have heard from clients how frustrating it is to go to a therapist for help and feel like you wasted time and money. Read more about choosing a therapist.
Telehealth is also great for people with mobility issues or conditions that make getting to a provider’s office difficult. For some people with anxiety, driving can be very difficult especially in adverse weather or high traffic. Telehealth allows us to work on your anxiety without excessively triggering it before the session.
Is Telehealth Really the Same as In-Person Therapy?
It is the connection with the therapist that matters, not whether they are across the room or on your screen. Therapy using a secure video platform allows for the building of a therapeutic relationship that has been shown to be as effective for treatment as in-person sessions. It is a matter of choosing the right provider for your needs and personality. In my experience, most people become comfortable with the video part very quickly.
What if I can’t figure out how to Connect?
I have chosen technology to make it as easy as possible. I use the secure video platform integrated into Simple Practice for video sessions. Once you have an appointment scheduled, all you have to do from your computer is click the video link that comes in your reminder email. If you are accessing from a smartphone or iPad, Simple Practice has a free app you can download to connect for your session. Read more with Simple Practice’s Getting Started with Telehealth.
You can also use your patient portal to see upcoming sessions and request to schedule, reschedule, or cancel appointments as needed. I also have secure messaging available through Simple Practice and also my HIPAA compliant phone app, Spruce Health. I offer a free consultation that will allow us to make sure that everything is working well, while also assessing if I am a good fit for your treatment needs and personality.
Why Would I Contact You for Help?
I am a Clinical Psychologist who has been licensed in Colorado since 2007 and who had a successful private practice in the South Denver Metro area since 2010. Last year, I decided to move physically out of state and expanded my practice to include Telehealth services to continue working with my Colorado clients. I completed a 17-hour continuing education certificate course on Telemental Health to make sure that I was adequately trained in all of the main factors involved in providing safe and effective treatment in this way.
